Lijsbeth seems to be missing a comma after 'and vert'.

How to use this page

First, check this page to make sure it hasn't already been reported.

Then, check the Errata Page in Progress listing to see if it isn't already scheduled for an errata letter. Note that Errata Page in Progress should not be edited by anyone but the Errata Clerk.

Third, check the recent LoARs? for errata letters to make sure it hasn't already been dealt with.

Then, add items to this page to report them. Try to keep things in chronological order, with most recent mistakes first.

Prospective Errata

August 2007

Caid

The name Þorfinnr brimill was registered in May 2007 and again in August 2007 (both via Caid). The August one should have been a return - the Caid April LoI? had a correction (admittedly in Sept - and I'm not sure how that happened) noting that the name had been registered in May.

May 2006

Cover Letter

Currently, precedent holds that a name where the individual elements are documented more than 300 years apart
is a step from period practice. In March 2003, Laurel ruled:

in a number of my recent rulings, I've ruled that excessive temporal mismatching can be considered a
"weirdness", costing the submitter the benefit of the doubt. With this LoAR, I hereby make the new policy
official: If the elements of a submitted name are dated too far apart, then any other anomaly in the name
may combine to force it to be returned.. . .

The quoted ruling is actually from the March, 1993 LoAR.

 January 1985 *****

Brighid Ni Re{a'}ne. Name correction from Brighid ni Roane.

Listed on the LoAR as a device reblazon for Brighid ni Roane,
her name was registered as Brighid Ni Re{a'}ne on the 10/1980
      LoAR.

 May 1985 *****

Sariya al Mus'ad. Name change correction from Brighid ni Roane.
Listed on the LoAR as a name change from Brighid ni Roane, this
name was registered as Brighid Ni Re{a'}ne on the 10/1980 LoAR.
The name Brighid Ni Re{a'}ne is hereby released.

...however, examination of the hard-copy of the October 1980 LoAR suggests that the name was Roane. The o is filled in (mimeograph printing), but it can be distinguished from a similarly filled in e by the small indentation in the e. If that should have been an e, then the 10/1980 LoAR needs correction. The online version of the LoAR shows Re{a'}ne, but that does not agree with the hardcopy.

November 2004

JML: this is a combined database and LoAR error. The O&A has:

Rinaldo of Blackhaven This name was registered in January of 1987 (via the Middle).
The following device associated with this name was registered in November of 2004 (via the Middle):
Or, a pegasus salient sable sustaining and ridden by a man in armor vert maintaining a sword sable..
for Household of the Dark Winds
The following device associated with this name was registered in January of 1987 (via the Middle):
Gyronny azure and argent, a bat displayed maintaining a fasces gules, wearing a barrel helm sable.
The following device associated with this name was registered in February of 1987 (via the Middle) and reblazoned in November of 2004 (via the Middle):
Or, a pegasus salient sable ridden by a man in armour guardant vert, maintaining a sword sable.

The Feb. 1987 LoAR registers the pegasus as a badge for the Household of the Dark Winds. So, that's the datebase error (calling it a device). The Nov. 2004 LoAR reblazons the armory calling it a device and not mentioning the association with the household. There's also an extra period at the end of the reblazon. That's the LoAR errors. I'm not reporting the database errors on the other badge because fixing that without fixing this will cause even more confusion.

July 2004

Atenveldt

The OandA? has:

  1. Ælfwin Ironhair
    * This name was registered in July of 2004 (via Atenveldt).

and

  1. Guilla Ironhare
    * This name was registered in February of 2004 (via Atenveldt).
    * The following device associated with this name was registered in February of 2004 (via Atenveldt):
Per pale Or and vert, in pale a single-horned anvil and a hare salient sable.

The first entry is a name change of the second, according to the LoAR:

"Ælfwin Ironhair. Name. ... Her old name, Guilla Ironhare is released."

It wasn't listed as a name change in the header, which is probably where the error got into the DB.

Herveus: This is a genuine erratum. The LoAR needs to be corrected. I can add a note, but that's all.

Argent, on a pile bendwise sinister throughout issuant from base between two crescents azure, an owl statant to sinister argent, as an augmentation on a chief azure, two keys fesswise reversed in fess argent.

The base blazon of the augmentation should match the registered armory. Either the blazon for the augmented arms should be changed or the base device (reg. 1989) should be reblazoned.

    * The following device associated with this name was registered in April of 1998 (via the Middle):
Per pall argent, sable, and vert, a Catherine's wheel and an oak leaf argent.
? intended to be a device change

JML: Not a device change, possibly a reblazon (but if so it's not accurate). The April 1998 LoAR states "This was registered on the February 1998 LoAR." It really is a chief triangular, not a per pall field division. Double check with Shauna to make sure there wasn't another submission; I only have the Feb. 1998 emblazon. Ary - If there wasn't another submission form, can you handle this in an Errata letter or do you need me to handle it on the LoAR?

  1. AEthelmearc, Kingdom of
    * This appeared in January of 1998 (via AEthelmearc).
It appears to have been a mis-spelling of Æthelmearc, Kingdom of.

This error was corrected on the 08/2006 errata letter.

No, it wasn't. It was a different misspelling that was corrected there. The January 1998 LoAR was not mentioned on that errata letter.

The Feb. 1994 LoAR notes "This is the submitter's currently registered badge. Submitted as Katherine de Laine, the above form was registered in the September 1992 LoAR and appears on her original name submissions forms." It appears that this should have been a change from badge to device and she should only have a single piece of armory registered. Please verify with Shauna - it's not on the CDs. Make the 1994 blazon match the one registered in 1992. -- JML

Aengus mac Coil. Name correction (from Aengus MacCoil?). (from http://www.sca.org/heraldry/loar/1986/09/lar.html). The OandA? has # Aengus MacColl?: * This name, registered in July of 1986 (via Atenveldt), was corrected to Aengus mac Coll in September of 1986 (via Atenveldt), so I think this is simply a transcription/OCR error for the electronic version.

October 1983

East

The OandA? has:

  1. David Morgan of Clai Morgan
    * This appeared in October of 1983 (via the East).
It appears to have been a mis-spelling of David Morgan of Claíomh Morgan.

According to the files, <David Morgan of Clai Morgan> is not a misspelling of <David Morgan of Claíomh Morgan>; it is a name change which was approved 10/1983, though this was not explicitly stated on the LoAR. Let me know on the errata page if you want me to make an errata entry for the name change.

This is still a pending erratum. The O&A accurately reflects what is in the LoAR. If it was meant as a name change on the fly, it needs to be made explicit.

June 1983

Ansteorra

  1. Eric Thorgrimsson. Per chevron sable and gules, a chevron, in base a peregrine falcon displayed Or, hooded sable, and a chief embattled Or.

This is so insanely light that I completely missed it when looking at the color copy in Ansteorra's files. In fact, ours just looks plain argent (marked sable). The scan in Laurel's files, if you zoom in and squint, shows what MIGHT be a very very light yellow, but even so, in comparison to the rest of the Or bits of the device, it looks argent to me. -- Emma

Heraldicon: Manfred Gustsson (August 1979, East): Gules, a raven displayed fesswise sable, orbed gules, all fimbriated or. That blazon needs the tincture "or" capitalized.

In fact, it appears that large numbers of registrations on that letter spell the tincture 'or'. The first word of the blazon is generally correct. Elsewhere, it's a coin flip.

--

The Order of the Maunch is not spelled that way in Kingdom Law or in the O & A. It appears in the Heraldicon listings, however.

Page in the Kingdom binder has Maunch typewritten, but the artwork is labeled Manche in calligraphy. Name was not explicitly registered until 1987, but the badge was registered to the Order in 1979.
